John Ward - Biography

One of Britains best known and most widely respected living potters, John Ward has produced a body of work comprised of mainly coil built stoneware vessel forms, generally favoring matte glazes and hand applied oxides. Each piece is hand built of flattened coils; some are then cut and rejoined, incised with a pattern or burnished with pebbles. They are then twice fired in an electric kiln.

Born 1938 in Islington, London, he
trained at East Ham Technical College and Camberwell School of Art during the 1960s.
He started his first workshop in London in 1971, and and is currently working at his own studio near Newport in Wales.
